pH - Hydrochloric Acid

The first thing that needs analysis in a pool is pH. This indicates how acidic or alkaline the water is. pH 7 is neutral, a low pH is acidic & a high pH is alkaline. For chlorine pools, pH needs to be maintained between 7.2 and 7.6.

A low pH can cause metal or concrete etching, and stinging eyes. A high pH can cause mineral deposits, poor sanitation and algae growth.

Pools normally rise upwards to a pH between 8 and 8.5 and need regular treatment with pool hydrochloric acid to reduce the pH.
